SR 572/Airport Road at Old Tampa Highway, Polk County, FDOT District 1
To accommodate the high volume of truck traffic and improve roadway operations, we designed dedicated left turn lanes on SR 572/Airport Road and increased radial returns for trucks turning onto Old Tampa Highway. The intersection improvement included widening a two-lane roadway to provide for left turn lanes. We reduced right-of-way acquisition and impacts to utilities using the combination of creative design and obtaining Design Variations.
